Slideout for flated

My first prototype slide out

This is a picture of my first prototype where I cut up a couple of fiberglass caps in order to make a slide out for our growing family. We had some amazing trips with this prototype and my son has asked me several times to design a slide out for fiberglass truck caps. There are several problems with making a slideout for a fiberglass cap, the biggest is the rear hatch door that limits the size of the slide that can be used. The struts that attach to the window further limit the space that can be used. This is one of the reasons I started designing an entire shell system.

I had dismissed the Flated topper a while back because I couldn’t imagine not being able to install a rooftop fan in the ceiling. Then I started seeing more and more people using them for camping. I saw a couple builds where people were installing plywood walls at the tailgate to house an AC unit, and provide a better entry point than the zippered hatch door. This is when it finally sank in that I could make a simpler version of my slide out to make this topper better suited for camping. I’ve designed the slide out to be under a 100lbs so it should be no problem for 2 people to remove from the truck after a camp trip. The slide out can be placed on dollies and wheeled into your garage. This will allow you to continue using the Flated for covered cargo space. You could keep all your camp gear inside the slide out like a small shed. This slideout could also work for the MilesRunner inflatable topper as well as a Softopper. I like the Flated because they have a tall version. Let me know if you’re interested by filling out the I’m Interested form, and tell me what kind of topper you have in the Additional Info section.
